DAVENPORT — Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Herbert L. Mackenzie, 96, of Davenport will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 27, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. today at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Downtown Davenport, with a prayer service offered at 3 p.m. to begin visitation. There will be additional visitation 10 a.m. until time of service Monday at the church. Memorials may be made to the church or for Masses.

Mr. Mackenzie passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, at Genesis Medical Center-East Rusholme Street, Davenport.

Herbert L. Mackenzie was born Dec. 21, 1917, in Davenport, the son of Herbert J. and Louise (Cornio) Mackenzie. He was united in marriage to Margaret Frerkes on July 31, 1944, in Davenport. She preceded him in death on Feb. 2, 2008. They celebrated 63 years together.

Herbert was a printing pressman for Bawden Printing for 22 years and retired in 1984.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and enjoyed mall walking, golfing, bargain hunting and traveling. He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, the Pressman’s Union, and the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Pallbearer Club.

Herbert was an Army Veteran of World War II (ETO) and served in the 11th Armored Division.

Survivors include his children and their spouses, William Mackenzie, Highlands Ranch, Colo.; Mary and Grant Davis, Little Rock, Ark., and Ann and Ron Farkas, Coralville, Iowa; five grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and sister, Virginia Wilkinson, Davenport.

In addition to his wife, Margaret, he was preceded in death by grandchildren, Joseph Farkas (at birth) in 1980, Jessica Farkas in 2011, and his parents.
