Travel plans of savvy adventurers include Italy. The fashionable destination is and has been Tuscany. Tourists are flocking to Tuscany cooking schools. Many of these so-called ‘authentic’ Tuscan experiences are created around luxurious travel packages. They offer beautiful settings in the northern Chianti region. Lots of cooking courses take place in hotels or villas and are a return to dormitory-style accommodations and sterile institutional cooking. Imagine that, Italians practicing capitalism.

Branson may be Missouri's least secret destination. The self-proclaimed live music capital of the world is tourist destination No. 1 for folks from all over the Midwest with its star-studded shows, flashy museums, zip lines and, of course, Silver Dollar City.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. • In downtown Memphis, the 321-foot-tall Pyramid stands as a shining tribute to the city’s namesake of Memphis, the ancient capital of Egypt. Just across town, there’s another tribute — at the Memphis Zoo.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. • When you enter the Nashville Zoo, with its piped-in animals sounds, tribal music, lush foliage and rope-lined boardwalk, you almost get the feeling that you are about to visit a remote village, or maybe something more along the lines of Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

OMAHA, Neb. • The cliché is that Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium has everything from aardvarks to zebras. It does have zebras (of course), and it does have aardvarks, and if you’ve never seen an aardvark you really should because those things are totally bizarre.
